The Small Business and Learning Institute (B&L) Internship Program was created with you in mind. B&L is always interested in finding talented people who are dedicated to strengthening or learning new skills. Our program offers Interns professional experiences and formal training opportunities that are tailored to meet their educational and professional goals and interests.
The B&L Internship Program gives the participants:
- The opportunity to acquire specific skills that are needed to pursue their professional goals and aspirations.
- The opportunity for hands-on work experience in their field of study.
Program Design
Each B&L Internship Program is designed to attract outstanding men and women who have the dedication to learn and has the desire for growth and prosperity. The B&L Internship Program provides various mixtures of formal training, on-the-job assignments, research assignments, workshops, and mentorships that will develop the skills needed for professional success and growth. Positions are available in Southern Kentucky, as well as in “virtual”locations around the US and abroad.
Each program is 12-weeks in length and may be extended at the request of the Intern. Mandatory hours vary with each position available, which are listed below. Hours stated are minimum hours required, however our Internship Program is exciting and fun, the Intern may work as many hours as they would like. These are non-paid internships and college/university credits will be offered.
All interns are required to have Yahoo Instant Messenger and a Gmail account.
The overall qualifications for each position includes the following list. However, should you lack in one of these areas, please do not let that stop you from applying for an Intern Position.
Must be 18 years or older
Candidate must have strong communication and writing skills
Must have an interest in social media

Available Positions
Radio Production Assistant – Are you interested in podcasting, video, and Internet radio? Do you enjoy talking to and interviewing people? If so, then our Radio Production Assistant position is for you!
As a Radio Production Assistant intern you’ll have the opportunity to connect with perspective radio show guests, implement social media strategies, and participate in outstanding and popular Internet radio shows.
Responsibilities include contacting perspective guests; scheduling interviews; creating surveys; updating websites; write and post show notes; and promote shows and interviews.
Hours: 15 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 15 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Video & Graphics Assistant – Are you creative? Do you like editing and producing video? Does the thoughts of animation keep you up at night? We are looking for creative minds who will take an idea and run with it.
As a video and graphics assistant, you will have the opportunity to take raw material and polish it into a professional video, creative graphics for programs and websites, edit audio and video, and record voiceovers.
Responsibilities include graphic design, video production, audio production, voiceovers, adding intro and outros to audio, and more.
Hours: 20 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 20 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Community & Media Assistant – Do you like commenting on people’s thoughts and opinions? How about leading discussions? Do you Tweet? Hang out on Facebook? We are looking for great communicators who are very comfortable with social media. If this sounds like you, then you will enjoy this position.
As a Community & Media Assistant intern, you’ll have an opportunity to gain experience in managing an online community, create viral campaigns; daily blogging and microblogging; supporting Twitter parties; supporting online training sessions; participate in focus groups; implement social media & networking strategies, as well as learn and participate in innovative marketing campaigns.
Responsibilities include commenting and facilitating discussions on various blogs; enforce Community Guidelines when necessary; outreach and participate in other related websites and blogs; assist in marketing campaigns; participate in forums; promote events and workshops.
Hours: 20 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 20 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Administrative Assistant – This position is excellent for the person who desires to work as an executive assistant and/or virtual assistant (VA). As an Administrative Assistant intern, you’ll have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Kelli Claypool on various projects and the day-to-day operations of maintaining successful businesses.
Responsibilities include scheduling appointments; keeping the online calendar updated; check and answer emails; follow-up with clients; light transcription; make travel arrangements; organize webinars and teleseminars; and update websites.
For this position, the Intern must have typing skills with accurate speed; knowledge of using email; Google docs; and have other general business office experience. Must be detailed oriented.
Hours: 20 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 20 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Customer Service & Satisfaction Assistant – Do you enjoy troubleshooting and finding creative ways to keep customers happy? Can you approach all situations with a smile? If so, this position is for you.
As a Customer Service & Satisfaction Assistant, you’ll have the opportunity to work with our customers; seek testimonials; create product and event surveys; and troubleshoot any area of weakness.
Responsibilities include keeping the customer happy; creating surveys and polls; and assist in marketing campaigns.
Hours: 10 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 10 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Writing Assistant – Do you have a way with words and enjoy creative writing? If so, then here’s your chance to capture the audience with fresh and new content.
Responsibilities include researching news and various topics; writing/editing newsletters; repurposing existing content for online webinars/workshops and blog posts; draft press releases; distribute content to appropriate directories and websites; research keywords for targeted content.
Hours: 15 hours a week. This is a virtual position, so scheduling the 15 hours to work is the Interns responsibility. Deadlines must be met and the Intern must be able to work in a virtual capacity.
Training
Training will consist of a mixture of orientation, on-the-job training, and classroom/web-based training. In addition, Interns are required to produce an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that will serve as a guide for the Internship. The IDP has the dual role of reflecting the interests and skills of the intern and meeting the needs and goals of B&L.
The purpose of the B&L Internship Program is two-fold. Interns will provide useful assistance for the organization while also gaining hands-on training that will assist them with their future career search and/or business. Each program is designed to be a win-win for both the Intern and B&L.
