Over the past month, I have heard an underlying common statement from coaching clients and friends. They say things like “I was doing better three years ago”, or “I’m not used to struggling like this”, or “I don’t know what is wrong with me because…”. Does this sound like you? Are you looking over your shoulder to your past and thinking those were the good days?
If so…STOP IT! Listen to me very carefully…are you listening with both ears? The best thing you can do to guarantee your success in life is to forget the past! Good or bad…just forget about it! Stop looking at where you’ve been, and start looking at where you can be. Don’t let yesterday’s accomplishments or yesterday’s failures be your roadblocks.
When I sold real estate, within a few short months I became the top salesperson in the company. I won awards, was recognized within the industry and community, life was great, money was better! Then the bottom broke and the real estate industry took a nose dive. My once grandiose attitude of “it’s only a money” turned into a fear of not having enough. Because of my fear, I made erratic choices that I thought would benefit my family, but did quite the opposite and set us back financially. I invested in things that sounded good, but resulted in losing a lot of money.
At that moment I had a choice, I could allow myself to be defeated which would lead to depression, despair, and prevent me from moving forward; or, I could pick myself up…dust myself off and work on making things better. You see, I had a choice…my attitude was my choice.
I believe it is impossible to succeed without experiencing failure. I’ve experienced both success and failure over the last 20 years. During my times of failure, I chose not to have a “victim” mentality. I know that I am victorious and so are you! Forget what you’ve accomplished in the past; forget your past failures and move on to great and mighty things.
Forgetting those things which are behind will allow you to experience the sweet smell of success ahead. Are you ready for it?
That’s it for now. I’ll see YOU around the Campus!
